We’re always on the hunt for some new great dinner ideas. Shish kebabs are a favorite of ours, but I hate cutting up the raw meat so I rarely make them. Then, the other day I had an ah-ha moment, and thought that Grilled Smoked Sausage Kebabs would be easy and delicious!  (I was right.)

This recipe is so super easy.  Get some Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage, olive oil, and a package of dry Italian salad dressing mix.  Then, pick out some grilling veggies; I chose zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and green and red bell peppers.  Cut up the zucchini and peppers into bite size (1 1/2-2″) pieces.  Put each one your cut vegetables in a plastic zip-top bag, sprinkle 1/4 of the Italian salad dressing mix packet over the veggies in each bag.  Then drizzle some olive oil over the veggies, close the top of the bags and give them a gentle toss.  You can let your vegetables sit in the marinade for as little or long as you like.  If you want more flavor like I did, I let mine marinate all day.  After you have your vegetables in the marinade, cut the Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage into 1″ slices.

Thread the smoked sausage and vegetables onto skewers.  Make sure you go through the skin side of the sausage and zucchini so they stay on the skewer better and get nice grill marks on them.  I grilled the kebabs for about 15 minutes total, turning them over half way through, on a charcoal grill.  I like my smoked sausage to be well done and crispy on the sides though.  Look for some browning on your smoked sausage and your zucchini to be tender.

So quick and easy, right?  These totally hit the spot.  Shish kebabs are going to be a more regular thing around here now.  I was so excited about my new Grilled Smoked Sausage Kebab recipe that I picked up 2 of the Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausages when I was at the store.  I figured we’d probably devour them.  (One smoked sausage link makes about 5 kebabs.)  It turns out that this week at Safeway (Tom Thumb here in Dallas) there’s a great deal on participating Hillshire Farm products where you can buy 3 and save $3.  I picked up a package of Hillshire Farm Lit’l Smokies too so I could get the savings and make some pigs in a blanket.  (Perfect football watching food or for making those adorable little Halloween mummies for the kids.)

  3. Your local market makes me jealous. Ours is nothing that fancy. Luckily we grow a lot of our own veggies, as you saw when you visited my post.
